What stayed with audiences and critics above all was the exceptional interplay of Gijs Scholten van Aschat and Maria Kraakman. In a physically exhausting production they played and danced the passionate relationship between two people who cannot live with one another, but cannot live without one another either. Their acting was widely praised for its intensity, vulnerability and emotional power.

Perceval stripped the novel of its historical context and brought the heart of the story to the fore: love as longing, addiction and self-deception. Live piano music by Jeroen van Veen gave the production an extra rhythmic and emotional charge.
