What made this production special was the combination of strong acting and striking visual design. The costumes by Wojciech Dziedzic made a particularly great impression. With their rich detail and contemporary grandeur they gave the production a pronounced identity that went on resonating long afterwards.
 

With Halina Reijn as Mary Stuart and Chris Nietvelt as Elizabeth I, the result was a penetrating duel between two women who make history and are at the same time trapped in the expectations that come with their position. The production was the second successful co-production by Toneelgroep Amsterdam and Toneelhuis.
